Ian Brady has been reported as bemoaning the media’s communication of his desire to starve himself. It was alleged yesterday, that Brady simply wants to emulate (and better) world-famous magician, David Blaine.
Readers may remember Blaine’s stunt in 2003, whereby he masochistically sat in a box suspended over the River Thames, fasting for 44 days. Prison psychiatrist and Brady’s publicist, Malcolm Drinkwater has stated that: “Brady doesn’t want to starve himself to death, that would be ridiculous. What he does want is to bring some magic into people’s lives by imitating and topping the exploits of his favourite magician.”
“He simply asks for the same sort of laudation that Blaine received for his fast. Ian‘s cell is no bigger than Blaine’s box was, but despite repeated requests, the courts refuse to make it transparent,” complained Drinkwater. “Given Ian’s goals, you have to question that kind of bias don’t you?”
