MP Michael Hughes, MP for Alder Valley, expressed his 'shock and outrage' when it was revelaed that someone he took to be an undercover journalist was actually one of his constituents.
'It's appalling that they should behave this way,' he said in a statement. 'We MPs know perfectly well that the only people who cone to see us these days are undercover journalists. Everyone knows the drill - they come to the surgery kitted out with hidden cameras, ask us to do something illegal, we agree and quote a huge sum of money, they go running back to the ST, relieved at having something to put on the front page, and we get a backhander out of it. Everyone's a winner!
'But I've just found out that the "constituent" who came to see me really is one! No wonder they were asking tricky questions, like what am I going to do about the proposed ring road. I had no idea there was one, of course, as I spend all my time in London er, running my office with my totally unattractive PA, 19-year old Kylie.
'So of course I said that I would take a pile of cash to ask questions in the Commons. I was rather surprised that they looked shocked when I said that - usually it's smiles and handshakes all round. Now of course I realise that they were ordinary punters.
'Still, there's no problem - they told me that they will report this "terrible corruption" to the Sunday Times. So I'm expecting the undercover reporters any minute now...'
