In the three years since being sentenced to death for killing his mother, it sometimes looked as if 37-year-old Ricky Bray was going to be left on the shelf as his fellow convicts awaiting lethal injection got married off one by one to lonely women they'd met on the Internet. His cellmate in San Vicente State Prison in California, triple killer Henry Mendez, tied the knot just a month ago with a divorcee from Bournemouth. But today Bray married Tammy Deane, a dental receptionist from New Hampshire, after a brief online courtship.
Bray was just careful and choosy, he says. He received several proposals from women before this, but after conducting background checks on Facebook and hacking into their email accounts he decided none of them was suitable marriage material.
He feels the time for frivolous flings is over, and is ready for serious commitment. “I'm facing into years of appeals and counter-appeals”, he said. “A man on Death Row needs a life partner”.
