A policeman has been suspended after he admitted being offered money for the compilation of a prestigious pub quiz. Piers Mackenzie-Laird was filmed by undercover reporters apparently negotiating the deal for a specialist set of questions. In addition to discussions regarding value for money, there was talk of the potential for solar heating to be installed at his home and a rewarding trip to a South Pacific island. In return, Mackenzie-Laird appeared to promise that the correct answers would be forthcoming.
It is understood that the target market for the quiz was a large drinking den full of wine-soaked old buffers. In order to attract the right clientele for the event, the quiz night was planned to coincide with a party on the terrace of the establishment.
However, Mackenzie-Laird denies any wrong-doing. “I have already declared my interest in pub quizzes to my employer, and I would have declared any payment to the taxman, “ he said. “And my house is warm enough without additional solar heating too, especially the two beautiful entrance halls I have. Lobbies are my speciality you know.”
