The English language hit an all time low yesterday and some experts have predicted it may never recover.
The incident happened when a marketing executive deliberately tried to use the words "Bette Davis Eye" as a verb. Though nouns have frequently been used as verbs before, this is first time a song title has been hijacked - and it is this aspect of the crime that has shaken the local community to its core. Even more shocking, say some witnesses, was that the marketing executive was one of their own countrymen.
"I've never head anything so horrifying in all my life," said one witness.
Despite attempts to bolster up the foundations of the dialect, many language geologists fear the bedrock of received pronunciation may be slipping into the sea. Rather than fight it, we would be better off devoting our energies to learning marketing speak and suspending all objectivity, said one culture expert.
