Not sure if I am missing an underlying trick question here but it's bank holiday so I will assume not.
Newsbiscuit has a twitter account and a Facebook account where they put links to the FPs and NiBs. They are encouraging you to follow their account on twitter or like it on Facebook.

Just wondered why the ongoing suggestion / accusation of "dawdling"?
Posted 7 years ago # -
I suppose it is meant to be funny, playing on the follow word. If you are following someone you may lose contact if you dawdle or don't keep up. I see it as costing a ticker entry. The Twitter and Facebook awareness could be promoted elsewhere.

I see it as costing a ticker entry.
One which you believe you could fill? There have always been tickers encouraging visitors to follow the site on both FB and Twitter, admittedly this is not the funniest, but I hardly think it's costing a ticker.

And I don't think there is a limit. I have seen loads in one go, and sometimes just a couple. I guess it depends on what's topical/ funny at the time of publishing

Hi Jeni, of course I believe I could fill the space. I have several ticker worthy submissions that have been overlooked in recent weeks but my opinion is not what counts.
The ticker does seem to have a low priority and frequently goes unchanged for many days. A proper ticker would change in line with the real news, subject to submission quantity and quality.Posted 7 years ago # -
I always found if it is good, it will get used.

"The ticker ... goes unchanged for many days. A proper ticker would change in line with the real news, subject to submission quantity and quality."
Well said sir. If I could award stars for that comment, I undoubtedly would.

Bollocks. Most proper tickers start with 'Breaking News' then continue to tell you that someone has just sneezed in Halifax or something just as dull.
Posted 7 years ago # -
Tickers should list things that the person on screen has just said.
Posted 7 years ago # -
Golgo, are you American?

Who just sneezed in Halifax? I hadn't heard about that. Tell us more. Was this sneeze due to governmant cutbacks? Was the sneeze caused by an extremist Islamic jihad? Was it her own fault because she was an unemployed benefit scrounger? Was she an immigrant? Was the sneeze the fault of the NHS and its culture of being driven by government targets? Has there been a wave of copycat sneezes? Is there more sneezing oop North because of deprivation / prejudice / deficient diet/poor education oop North? Are we all about to be annihilated by a panicdemic of killer sneezing? Was this sneeze all the fault of the EU? Is sneezing being spread by the internet? Are we all doomed?
I think we should be told.

I remember when I first looked at NB there were hilarious tickers and I then went to find the full story so I could laugh some more. I was a bit disappointed to find there was none.

Agreed. There are many short, funny and often highly topical headlines posted here which would make brilliant ticker lines, and enough of them to make it easily possible to renew / replace / update ticker lines swiftly and regularly.
This would make the whole website more attractive to new readers; a casual visitor's eye may be caught more readily by a short, sharp witticism than by a clever but long-winded news story.
This would also be very encouraging for contributors, especially newcomers who might come up with witty one-liners but who haven't yet developed the writing skill to compose a top-quality, full-length news story.
There doesn't seem to be much excuse for keeping tedious, unfunny ticker lines running for week after week.
In my opinion - and just a suggestion.

e.g. Today's ticker changed the Facebook/Twitter one to Beebo and still retains a reference to Eurovision. Stale.

Did we all have a rubbish bank holiday and decided to have a whinge here because the missus has sent you to the shed?
Posted 7 years ago # -
Today's ticker has been refreshed. Thanks to all concerned.

Weemat, I am just delighted that someones can be arsed to maintain and edit this site - time on your hands, why not volunteer to help maintain NewsBiscuit?
Posted 7 years ago # -
Well said Al.
I think it's worth reminding everyone that NB is run voluntarily. No-one is paid to help out, and those who update the site do so in their own time.
A little appreciation of the fact that the site exists at all might be good.

Will someone please tell me which volunteers are maintaining the site? If I could see their contributions then I'd be able to adapt my style to suit their sense of humour and get my stuff on the front page.
Also, it might save me the trouble of flattering people who don't count.

The Admin Team are not, to the best of my knowledge, contributors. The Editorial Team changes regularly but is generally made up of former WotM winners.

Thank you, Ms B. I value your answering.
Also, the answer explains a lot.
Posted 7 years ago # -
You're welcome, and yes, it does.
Posted 7 years ago # -
I did not realise that there were volunteer admins and editors. Hat tips to all of you. I thought the team were all highly paid professionals just not doing their jobs properly and living off the banner ad revenue.
Posted 7 years ago # -
The minute Rebecca actually finds a date, that's the end of the revenue stream.
Posted 7 years ago # -
Are the administrators volunteers?
There's a nasty rumour abroad that the phantom spammer is in fact a NewsBiscuit website administrator clocking up overtime work.
