In the wake of his much-publicised retirement from football, Sir Alex Ferguson has announced plans for a new venture as a chat-show host on Channel 5. The programme, to be called “It’s Fergie Time!”, will feature Ferguson in conversation with a selection of referees and other match officials reliving, in the words of a spokesperson, “Classic Manchester United matches in which Sir Alex feels that wrong decisions were made and where he will give the officials a chance to admit their errors.” Special FergieVision (TM) technology has been created for the show, to accurately reflect the host’s unique perspective.
There will also be a section entitled “Under the Hairdryer” where some of his favourite ex-players will be seated under a hairdryer while Sir Alex grills them. Guests so far announced for this spot are Wayne Rooney, Roy Keane and David Beckham.
Each episode is scheduled to last 90 minutes but sources close to the show warn that frequent overruns are likely. “It all depends on how co-operative the guests are,” said one.
