A group of four women from the relationship charity Relate have joined forces to market a training course specifically aimed at those men who are utterly useless at putting the laundry out to dry. The relationship counsellors believe that the course will eliminate one of the key elements in domestic arguments by addressing the intense irritation women feel when finding shirts hung on a washing line by the sleeves.
The course aims to cover all laundry items and includes another factor which mystifies many men; the important differences in techniques between hanging the washing up to dry indoors and outdoors.
The driving force behind the initiative is Jennifer Hackett who drew upon her own frustrating experiences when developing the courseware. “It took me a long time and many heated arguments before my husband became fully trained,” she said. “But I think he now understands that unless the socks are pre-arranged neatly in pairs before being pegged out individually, the washing will not dry.”
The ladies are already working on a second, infinitely more-challenging course, aimed at training men to get the washing in when the football’s on and it starts raining outside.
