Absolutely. Most manufactured goods are made down to a price and not up to a standard, or with built-in obsolescence - it's cheaper to buy a new one than repair an old one, and the nature of new technology is such that the average man or woman can't repair it, even if they want to. Clothes are designed to be disposed of after a few wearings - most high-street clothing certainly looks worn out after a few washes, and much of it looks like shit even before it leaves the store.
The effect on the environment of this is not good at all - China is one huge toxic dump now, because of the West's insatiable appetite for ephemeral goods. Mind you, the Victorians were pretty good at churning out cheap, disposable crap for the masses, so it's not a new phenomenon. As for TV and radio, I guess there's always been a few jewels in a sea of dross, but with the proliferation of media channels and types, the sea is now an ocean.
Golgo will be along in a minute to make fun of us.
