The Luis Suarez biting row took on a racial twist today, as the controversial Liverpool striker was accused of ‘only biting white people.' When analysing this weekend’s incident, the FA’s eagle-eyed disciplinary panel noticed that the Uruguayan chose to ignore the non-white players, preferring to sink his teeth into the Caucasian Bratislav Ivanovic.
‘Why not the black and Asian players too?’ asked a panel member. ‘Aren’t they as worth biting as a white man?’ This is not the first time Suarez has been accused of racial discrimination: in a 2011 incident at Ajax, he bit the white Otman Bakkal over several non-white players.
Suarez’s club later released this statement: ‘Liverpool Football Club does not condone physical violence in any way. Nevertheless, we are an equal opportunities club and believe that no-one should be denied the right to be bitten because of the colour of their skin.’
