Following an internal disciplinary hearing today, the Sun has revealed that the sub-editor responsible for yesterday's Page 3 article (Norman Normal, 19) had not demonstrated the required professional judgement regarding the content of the piece. The hearing was told that Mr Normal claimed he was "distracted by something on his iPhone" which caused him to "mishear" vital elements of the story. He went on to say that he had been "surprised" when later that day he was told that his version of the news story contained a great many factual errors.
Mr Normal is to appeal the sacking decision.
