ID, i am part Welsh, part German, part English and I live in Scotland. And I speak French. (well, I can, but generally i use English as it's a bit more practical here.) Does that make you more or less proud to have had your prose praised by me?

Hmm. You know when you get lost as a kid, your mum finds you, and simultaneously wants to hug you with blessed loving relief, and beat you for wandering off and scaring the shit out of her?

this is true, undoubtedly, but is in part an exercise in semantics. We think of concentration camps as extermination centres; in the Boer war they were a means of coralling enemy-supporting homesteads together- literally concentrating them in one spot, rather than disseminated across the country and supporting a guerilla army.
Not for one moment saying they were a kind or gentle measure, or that inmates did not suffer hugely including dying, but their purpose was significantly different to Nazi extermination camps.
