Vatican officials have revealed Pope Francis will be taking in washing over the holiday weekend to help with the day to day running costs of the world’s only ecclesiastical monarchical.
A Vatican press secretary said the Pope hoped to cash in on the thousands of pilgrims and tourists heading for Rome over the Easter weekend who will not have access to a decent washing-machine during their stay.
‘Washing your socks and underpants in the sink back at your hotel is OK but doesn’t help anyone struggling to find a clean shirt for the evening‘ said His Eminence Cardinal Dario Arinze ‘and Pope Francis was one of the first people to recognise this and do something positive about it’.
The Pope has a reputation amongst Apostolic Constitutions within the Catholic church for the cut of his whiter than white robes and has already been singled out as the best turned out Supreme Pontiff in a generation. Some insiders suggest although Pope Francis undoubtedly had some of the whitest robes of all the Papal hopefuls going into the last round of voting during the recent elections, it was his flawless Zuchetto that swung any doubters in his favour.
With revenue from church collection plates and the Vatican’s own tourist shop flatlining and income from tax evasion and corruption at an all time low it is hoped the new Pope will bring in some much needed funds for the Vatican’s hard pressed laundry room.
The Pope will be outside St. Peter’s Basilica following morning prayers tomorrow and anybody who has any washing that needs doing can either phone him on 07870 999666 or text DAZ and leave a message.
Note: due to high demand the Vatican are asking only 6 items per person or 10 if you can help with the ironing.
