Des. For moments like this there's always Rebecca. She's only 3 miles away

I like the turds idea ...can we get the Ed to change the system for tomorrow (I mean, today) and see who notices

I love this thread, for the occasional retiree it has everything. Scoring system discontent, a hint of flounce, Jeni and Des (forever the Rachel and Ross of NB). Could do with a soupçon of multiple identity paranoia, but everyone's a critic...
In earnest (he likes it) Big Ben, don't get your panties in a bunch over scores. If the powers-that-be like your work, it gets picked. If not, kiss goodbye to your gran. It's really no more complex than that. The votes here work rather like the Conservative power-base: nice if you have more than anyone else, but not necessarily a barrier to domination if lacking.

Couldn't we award rocks instead of stars? I believe Wayland still has a spare one knocking around somewhere. It must have cooled down enough be be able to handle safely by now.
People could then say "This post ... rocks!"

then those of us in glass houses could happily lob feedback at our fellows...

Mary! You know you were always the only one. Really. Do you think it's nearly time for a reunion of the Home Counties Chapter of Biscuiteers for a glass of sauv blanc or a pint of warm ale? Or have you all moved to Salford?

Yep, time for a warm pint.

best idea all day

I also like Nowherefast's idea of turds, but then I would. But it would focus us on the negative and a lot of people wouldn't cope with all that shit.
My point was more about knowing how many people had looked at a piece by means of the 'hit count', not an argument over the scoring. A hit count would give the scoring further meaning.
But now having compiled a list of 20 odd do's and don't's to guide writing I think as Bourbon says it's about enjoying writing, and the occasional crack on I'd say, but if your humour doesn't fit here don't expect to get very far.
BTW I can't twist my knickers becuse I'm going commando.

Very far... Hmmm... The best that can happen is that your sub appears 'in print' for a day, for no financial reward.
Don't worry about your humour 'not fitting'; just write something funny, ffs...

We are supposed to be getting somewhere? Really?
Posted 7 years ago # -
If we're supposed to be getting somewhere there the tour guide should be ashamed of himself.

Desmond, that is a quite super idea. When should The Cheese expect our custom? And the local authorities expect the aftermath?

I think we usually do a Friday night, so how about 19 April? That allows people time to get their shit together but isn't too far off. If for any reason loads of people would prefer a particular different date, or perhaps a Saturday, that's fine.
I think Stan said he couldn't stay on a Friday but would be up for a quickie, so your luck could be in.

''to get their shit together'' ??
No,Des.Unequivocally,no.Posted 7 years ago # -
I'll take that as a 'no', No No, although knowing No No it was probably meant more as a 'no-no'. No?
Posted 7 years ago # -
Des is the 'Ross' of NB? In that if he wasn't here then it'd still be just as funny and slightly less annoying? Or that we all fancy his sister?

I think I can be there.

On it like a car bonnet. And I should know.

Yeah Al OPecia, getting somewhere doesn't have to be physical, or even virtual, it can be like on another plane, becoming a better more rounded person through self understanding.
Posted 7 years ago # -
Yep, you should definitely give self-understanding a try.

'I'll take that as a 'no', No No, although knowing No No it was probably meant more as a 'no-no'. No?'
HEY nonny no
Men are fools that wish to die
Is it not fine to dance and sing
When the bells of death do ring?
Is it not fine to swim in wine,
And TURN UPON THE TOE,
And sing hey nonny no!
When La Evans 'blows' and the cheesy beers flow?
Hey nonny no no feckin no!Posted 7 years ago #
