Following hot on the heels of Alex Salmond's announcement that the day for the Scottish referendum regarding independence has been set for 18th September 2014, the English government have declared 19th September 2014 a nation holiday. This will be called “away wi’ U Jimmy” day.
The English have never been able to forgive the Scots for the physical, emotional, psychological and spiritual damage inflicted on us over the years. This has come in many shapes and forms
Braveheart...the film not the actual battle. The bagpipes...a more effective torture than water boarding. Taggart...which required all TV’s to be equipped with subtitles in order to make sense of it. The Crankies...who have literally redefined the words humour and funny. The Proclaimers...why stop at just walking 500 miles boys? Keep going north. Gordon Ramsey & Brown...one a sweary egomaniac, the other a cook by any other name. And not forgetting Andy Murray...the warm welcoming face of Scotland.
The SNP’s campaign to promote the “Yes” vote will no doubt highlight Scotland’s ability to be an economically viable nation with a workforce and infrastructure capable of drawing the best from its citizens. This has already been demonstrated by using Danish steel to construct the metal 2014 sign used to mark the unveiling of the independence referendum date and also by issuing the contracts for the new Forth bridge to Chinese companies.
Whilst the SNP government is predicting a swift economic upturn post independence, the only boom will be the sound of explosives being detonated along the length of Hadrian’s wall, casting this new nation free of all ties to the rest of the United Kingdom.
