In an effort to increase commercial pressures within the NHS, the Chancellor, in his budget today, is set to announce a joint venture with Match Attax trading cards which will encourage operating staff to perform more operations and cut waiting lists.
Surgeons, nurses and anaesthetists will be given a card for each operation they perform. There will be 64 cards depicting various types of operation and a free glossy binder, with a picture of Health Secretary Jeremy Hunt on the front, in which they may be stored.
In addition the cards will include statistics such as cost, degree of difficulty, number of annual occurrences in the UK and the percentage death rate. These cards may then be used to play 'Top Trumps'.
Dr Adembo Nyanga, of St Mark's Hospital in the Fulham Road, is particularly enthused about the idea, which was piloted there. "It is really great" he said "I've got a double heart by-pass and two kidney transplants so if anyone out there want to swap please get in touch with me."
