   While we're having a whinge about this site (well, I am), why do we have to put up with all this crap every morning?

   OK its gets exterminated fairly quickly (like any other malignant infestation) but on most sites I visit there are measures in place to ensure that these spammers are kept out and such garbage never gets posted in the first place. Is there someting different about the way NB is organised, which leaves it more vulnerable?

   This gets raised quite frequently, and the style of the site is that anyone can join in the fun. So, how can you distinguish between a genuine funny person and a spammer ? Sure, the registration could be far more complex, but that would cost money & probably wouldn't work.

   Far easier is that Admin goes around with the Hoover every morning.

   So, ignore the spam, heckle it, or write your own.

   Quite often, the spam is the funniest stuff on here. ‘Youbuyitnow’ does brilliant (and sometimes disturbing) spam parodies, but I suspect he/she has already won WOTM in a different guise.

    My original post was not a criticism of our noble masters here, who have the thankless job of wading throught all the tedious garbage posted on here by me and others. I am grateful for their efforts.

    It was more about the technical design of the site.

    I did (do) not find this a particularly simple site to reister with or log in to. I visit many other sites regularly - some silly, most serious - and nearly all of them are much simpler both to register with and to log in to, and all these sites have manged to block spammers.

    What is it about the technical design of this particular site which makes it so easy for blatant spammers (or more likely, their bots) to register, log in and submit all their ghastly nonsense?
