This is good. What started off as somebody having a bit of a moan about the structure of the site has turned into quite a constructive discussion.
The site is supposed to be for people to try their hand at writing, get some feedback (being ignored counts as feedback, it’s the polite way of saying that something didn’t work), learn what does and doesn’t work and improve.
The comments from Not Amused and Slante Dangle show that there are still people who are more than willing to listen to feedback on here, and I expect to see many more FPs from those two. Unfortunately there seems to have been more lately who don’t want to be told that their sub wasn’t the comedy gold that they thought it was. The knock on effect of that is that newcomers who miss the mark with their first couple of efforts are less likely to get advice and more likely to get abuse.
Everybody has posted something that wasn’t very good. If there was a delete button for subs I’d go back through and get rid of loads of mine and pretend I’d never written them. My first sub was awful but was politely ignored, so I tried again. If it had been met with a torrent of abuse then I might have been less inclined to give it another go.
