Wigan’s Callum McManaman explained that his refusal to apologise for his ‘horrendous tackle’ of Massadio Haidara is just his way of making a well overdue stand for what football should really be about. He told one reporter “Even people who don’t give a toss about the game, know that we are paid horrendous amounts of money under orders to make a big fuss over any injury, even a near miss. But, it makes our profession look like a bunch of cry babies, instead of athletes focused on scoring goals at any cost. You wouldn’t get that in American football. I’ve seen guys over there not even shed a tear over a broken neck!”
