In what was originally thought to be a stunt for Comic Relief, stewards and security staff were caught offside at Goodison Park on Saturday when several comedians dressed in Manchester City kit appeared on the football pitch and began to warm up ahead of their vital clash with Everton. Stewards noticed the men on the pitch but believing they might be a part of Roberto Mancini’s squad rotation policy allowed them to remain there for the entire 90 minutes of the game which 10 man Everton won 2-0.Strangely this failed to raise even a titter from the visiting fans who just didn't see the funny side at all.
One Scottish resident of Manchester, known locally as "wee Alex" did have his funny bone tickled and laughed so hard it was thought he might actually smile, when informed that his noisy neighbours still believed they could win the title. After being given a sedative he finally gaining his composure to declare that this was the best one liner he had heard in ages.
Police have revealed that if caught the individuals will appear before the Community Justice Center asap. If found guilty the conspirators are likely to be sentenced to watch Wigan Athletic's entire home programme next season which hopefully will not replicate their current form with the Latics having the joint-worst home record in England's top five divisions with three wins and 13 points from 15 games. Heavens above Chris Huhne and Carlos Tevez have managed to get more points than that between them.
Police are working on a number of possible leads and have taken the precaution of issuing an artist impression of what the comedians might look like which bears a striking resemblance to the actual Manchester City team photo for 2012-13. If you see any of these men, do not approach. They may shoot but it’s thought highly unlikely they will hit the target.
