Essex police admitted today that the camera that supposedly caught Chris Huhne speeding in 2003 was 'faulty.'
Sergeant Humberside of the Essex police explained that the M11 camera had been incorrectly calibrated so that it recorded a speed of 85 mph even if a car was stationary.
"Its quite funny really, when you think about it" chuckled Sergeant Humberside, "thousands of motorists like Mr Huhne were incorrectly charged over the years. We can only apologise and promise there will be a full refund of their fines and that penalty points will be removed. We trust this has not caused any inconvenience."
When told the news in his cell Mr Huhne did indeed see the funny side. In fact he laughed so much that tears rolled down his cheeks before he fell back into the arms of his new bisexual friend, Ron.
