When confronted with the suspicion he did not wear a tie to the LibDem spring conference because he forgot to pack it in his luggage, Nick Clegg said: “Look, I did wear a tie OK? The important thing is I can honestly say I don’t know a thing about government policy because Dave and George won’t tell me, so it will not be my fault when the whole thing goes Pete Tong.”
Vince Cable said: “I’ve had a look at the television video footage and it is unclear if Nick was wearing a tie or not, but if he said he did, I am prepared to believe him.”
Reports in the Wapping Liar speculating Mr Clegg left his tie at the residence of a mystery woman (named only as ‘VP’) were flatly denied.
