After the demise of her long-running Bond character 'M' in Skyfall, Dame Judi Dench has been far from 'just resting' between film and theatre roles. Britain's national treasure has been getting 'hot and sweaty' making a fitness DVD.
On sale less for than a day, it has already displaced Madonna's 'Brazil Butt-Lift Xtreme' in the workout DVD charts.
The video 'DENCH-PRESS WITH DAME JUDI' shows a remarkably 'buff' Dame Judi, 78, bench-pressing huge weights in gym shorts, skimpy bikini top and glowing permatan.
"Women have been 'pumping iron' since time began." she says in her introduction to the DVD.
"Normally it has meant pressing clothes or, in their courtships, pumping something else in dimly-lit car parks."
"Lying flat on your back, legs wide akimbo and pushing like fuck until your eyes pop is not unknown to women," she quips, with a trademark pixie-like twinkle in her eyes.
Launching the self-improvement video, Dench, still retaining all her coquettish femininity despite an impressive 'six-pack', said, "There's a dearth of roles for older woman out there. This opens up many other possibilities for the mature actress, not just Lady Bracknell, Nurse in 'Romeo and Juliet' or some bitter old Queen."
"I'd rather leave those parts to the present day Gielguds."
"It really works. Since taking up this regime, I'm kicking the shit out of Vin Diesel, Van Damme and Vinnie Jones in the heavy action role movie auditions."
Replying to questions whether she was worried her new physique would alter long-standing commitments to TV comedy series roles she replied, "Let's put it this way, I won't be playing opposite Geoffrey Palmer in a series of 'A Fine Bromance'."
