Liverpool Council have been accused of racketeering after trying to sell houses in the city for as much as a £1.00
Locals say what the city needs is more affordable housing and that offering houses for a £1.00 each will see first time buyers unable to compete with Liverpool’s elite and communities will start drifting apart.
But councilors denied they were trying to cash in on the exclusive empty properties in Kensington saying buyers would be offered long term interest free loans with ample time in which to repay.
Some locals expressed fears that families in Liverpool would struggle to pay off the loan with some saying the 5 year pay-back time period was just fantasy and yet another example of how the council had lost touch with reality.
Others say that the five-year residency rule was unrealistic in this part of Liverpool, pointing out that life expectancy for people moving into the Kensington area had flatlined at three.
However, fears that lone-shark money lenders operating in other parts of the country could move in were dismissed as unlikely as none would be prepared to risk loaning a £1.00 to someone who comes from Liverpool.
Locals also fear that with Kensington recently featured in a BBC Crimewatch special, their new-found reputation as the ‘murder capital of Great Britain’ could attract buyers from Eastern Europe and beyond.
But with 1 in 5 people in Liverpool saying they often use a nail-gun at work, the council are hoping the houses can be done up to a reasonable standard with some almost fit to live in.
Homeless families on the council waiting list had initially shown an interest in the project but were put off the idea after discovering former Liverpool and England captain Phil Thompson had once lived in the area.
The sale of the houses could raise as much as £20.00 for the cash-strapped council which councillors say would offset the need for a council tax rise in the city for at least another six years.

I am a definite admirer of your stubborn refusal to use paragraphs. If only your name was longer I'd have given 4 stars. I had a scouser for a pet once, they are fairly easy to house train, but you couldn't leave your credit cards lying around.

I like it, despite the lack of paragrphs. The houses might be a bit too small, though, for your typical Scouse family especially if you incude their 29-year-old grandmother.
