Veteran God basher and professor of microbiology at Brayknee College, Oxford, Sir Richard Dawkins, admitted today he was ‘unable to explain’ QPR’s remarkable away win at Southampton on Saturday.
QPR who had failed to win in 92% of their matches this season, were heavy favourites to lose to Southampton, who had been playing well under the guidance of their new coach Mauricio Pochettino, who, like Professor Dawkins, is known for his modern ‘scientific’ theories.
By contrast QPR were led by Harry Redknapp, known for his ‘old school’ tactics such as taking all the team away on holiday to have huge ‘bonding’ sessions that go on until the early hours.
Dawkins confessed to ‘not knowing much about football’ and ‘being an Arsenal fan’. By contrast a spokesman for religion said that a result such as this was ‘not at all a surprise as God moves in mysterious ways’.
One source credited an unknown QPR fan who, on hearing that Jose Bosingwa and Jay Bothroyd had been selected, cried ‘God help us’, and it seems that, on this occasion at least, his prayers were answered.
