offlineMemberMore to the point, this isn't really funny at all, is it?
OK Shaggy, here's a difficult lesson in life - some things you think of aren't very good. We all have this problem, and we all have to learn to hang on to those ideas until we've worked out how to make them actually funny. Everyone on here has had to work out the same thing, and it's tough but worth it.
Go on, give it a go. You'll be so glad you did, I promise. The hard part is only getting past thinking that someone who gives advice is a bastard, then you're away!

I don't think it's about providing examples, the point is valid. Spend a bit of time in each sub as opposed to a scatter gun approach. People will appreciate it more. There is nothing worse than a board filled up by one persons half thought out thoughts. It also means that things longer subs people have taken time over get lost in the stream of consciousness of others.
Be gracious and take the advice in the spirit it's meant

offlineMemberI'm sorry Shaggy, I know it sounded rude, but I promise you it wasn't meant as an insult. The people who do well on here are the ones who don't post quickly - they think about their subs, make sure they're perfect, and almost never post more than one sub per day.
I know, because I am one, under another name, obviously. It's up to you - post the first thing you think of and be ignored, or think it through slowly and just post what's really good.
There are people out there charging for this advice. :-)

I think people are offering you advice. Being nice. Trying to help. Stop being so defensive and take it in the spirit it was intended.

You do have to have some experience of the subject. No cook expects the restaurant critic to be able to knock out a better dish do they?
A lot of people use the scatter gun approach without even bothering to read the guidelines. They then get pissed off for not being hailed as the saviour of British satire. The truth is that they get ignored.BTW, I haven't written anything funny for about 18 months. That doesn't mean I don't enjoy good comedy. I am sure you can do better than this.

I know its been tough since nan died, and that unfortunate incident with the Nigerian cleaning lady did not help, although I for one believed you when you said it was a cucumber.
Don’t you remember the fun we used to have? How about that time when you pulled out your toy soldier and let those schoolboys play with it, or when you dropped your pants and pressed your hairy arse against the cafe window when the WI were having tea. You used to enjoy having a laugh. Be funny again – bash one out for me – it will do you good.

PS Velma says she is going to try to get you into one of those nice NHS hospitals for a rest. She says Mid Staffs is the best bet, but apparently there is a long waiting list of people trying get their elderly relatives in, so it may be a few months.

What the fuck.
I think people have just tried to be polite, so maybe you need it a bit clearer. You have written a lot if subs and the vast majority of them are not funny. You obviously think being funny is writing the first thing that come into your head, and then you seem to expect everyone to tell you you are fucking brilliant. If you want to see how to do it look at Charlies_hat. He'll post a one liner but you know it has been well thought out and you also know he won't just post a half idea.
Stop being a dick, take the polite feedback on board and get better and people will support and be nice. Be a little prick every time someone give you advice and don't be surprised if people are hostile towards you.

The point I'm trying to make though, is that ideas - even crap ones like this - may spark off other ideas, but sitting at home just rubbishing other people who are trying (and contributing fuck all yourself) will never get us anywhere.

I think what there are saying is less is sometimes more. If you have a kernel of an idea then work on it until it works well. If you post loads and loads of average stuff people will tend to ignore it.
I think the advice is coming from the right place. Just take the advice people give in the spirit it is given. Don't start flouncing because someone doesn't like it. The have you written argument doesn't stand. There are films I have said I don't like, but I have never made one myself. Doesn't mean my opinion isn't valid. If you read lens first comment it was trying to be constructive

I don't care about people who ignore stuff, I am looking for the people, like me, who will take an idea and ride with it. There were hours this morning where only sydalg and myself were posting. Surely its better to have something to work on, to criticise (in a non-agressive or at least amusing way) than look at nothing?
Don't get me wrong. I am not sensitive to criticism, and have been booed off stage many times, but the point is you come back, you have a go, you don't just sit there criticising others and contribute fuck all yourself. That is the path of the coward.

I completely disagree with your idea that it is better to have a load of shit posted than nothing at all. If you fill the writers room with rubbish, all you succeed in doing is pushing any good subs onto the second page. This is meant to be a wiki style comedy site, but that doesn't mean you can start with any old shit that comes into your head. Take the time to read the guidelines for writers.
Can I add that I thought "it wasn't me" was shit as well.

offlineMemberSimply, it is not funny because it wouldn't really matter if the Judge was a Klu Klux Klan member presiding over the trial of a white man accused of shooting his white girlfriend, it is a flight of fancy but not relevant to the case therefore there is no comedy effect.
