Outraged readers of the Melton Mowbray Pie, one of a number of Leicestershire free newspapers have called for a public inquiry to discover why news has appeared in their local free paper.
John Swinswood, Editor-in-Chief was quick to respond “Yes it is true that The Pie, as it is affectionately known here, is usually cover to cover with adverts for local trade and services. However, last week saw the passing of one of the last remaining Mowbray Dunkirk veterans and a two be one column was inserted”
Tom Evans, local farmer was dismissive “I bought that paper in good faith, and to see a part of the paper that usually hold the Deal of the Week from Old Moult’s Farm, used for something else beggars belief”
A county-wide investigation revealed that 6 other free newspapers contained up to 10% news
The Pie’s Editor admitted that he was responsible for the article, and has asked for 12 other articles to be taken into consideration
