"You don't realise the pressure that I and my fellow board members are under" complained an NHS Trust chairman. "We have to make really tough decisions. Like when a member of staff threatens to reveal how we kill patients - do we threaten to sack them if they spill the beans, or do we sack them anyway and bribe them with hundreds of thousands of pounds to stay stumm?"
