Yet again, the Prime Minister has threatened to veto the selection of the new Pope if it is not in the interests of the UK. Downing Street stated “… clearly the role of Pope is one of immense importance to the UK. And given the pressures so many countries are under these days it is only right and proper that whoever takes on the role be prepared to act in the interests of the UK. We hope it will not prove necessary but the PM is prepared to veto the appointment.”
They later commented ”Tony Blair seems a very well qualified candidate, male, starting to go grey, etc.”
