In controversial remarks welcomed by Tory right-wingers, Chris Grayling has defended the right to smack gay people. In an interview for the Jeremy Kyle show, Grayling said: "I'm not opposed to it, but I wouldn't go as far as to say they should be badly beaten". Mr Graying admitted to smacking his own gay son, "up until he reached an age when he could hit me back".
Mr Grayling also called for the reintroduction of workhouses, saying they should be "cold, miserable, but humane".
