I had to Google who she was, but it was a real 'oh, heerrrrr...' moment. Had no idea she'd died, great shame.
Never been as clued-up on current affairs as I am now, since starting writing stuff on NB, and apparently catching up historically too!
My favourite Linda Smith joke...
"I come from Erith. It's not twinned with anywhere but it's got a suicide pact with Dagenham".
Great lady.
Don't knock ASBOs. For some kids it'll be the only qualification they get.
RIP Linda.
A sad loss to commedy. Somewhere along the line I got the idea that she was real life mates with Mark Steel and Jeremy Hardy, anyone know if that's right? I ask only because stand ups are notoriously stand-offish with each other (a competition thing I guess).
Many thanks for that link, Stan.
Yep, thanks Stan. Sadly missed.
I am still in stitches when I hear her bit about the Iraq War: "I sort of sympathise with them looking for weapons of mass destruction, because I'm like that with scissors. Honestly, I just turn the house upside down. Of course the difference is, I know I have got some scissors." I hope she had some idea of how fondly she would be remembered.
Thanks for the link, Stan. And thanks for the quote, Ostrich - I did a big laugh/snort and then ran around the house telling it to everyone.
God, she was wonderful.
And her comment about Neil and Christina Hamilton:
"Some people object to them getting the oxygen of publicity. I object to them getting the oxygen of oxygen."
There's not a week goes by that I don't bastardise that quote and use it about someone else!
