I do rather love the fact that 'The Spoof' feels it is necessary to run that story with the disclaimer that the story is not true.

It continues a long tradition of piss-poor aircraft for the RAF and Navy. My favourite was the Gloster Javelin, that could explode if it flew through clouds.
The carbon-fibre Harrier was another classic, which no-one could repair when it was introduced. Then there's the Tornadoes with concrete where the radar should have been, and the original Lightning, which couldn't carry missiles because they put too much strain on the airframe.
Britain has a long and proud history of developing dreadful, useless shit at vastly inflated prices.

Not forgetting the TSR2 and that other huge money-pit and 3/4 scale friend of hearing aid salesfolk Concorde

Cheers DVO, couldn't remember the name TSR2! It's about time we dug up HOTOL again, and threw billions at it before scrapping the prototypes.
