Chat show host Oprah Winfrey has said she thought Lance Armstrong was lying when he claimed to have taken performance enhancing drugs to help him win the Tour de France.
Armstrong confessed live on air in front of millions of people that it was a cocktail of banned substances that enabled him to dominate the world of professional cycling for so many years.
But Winfrey refuted the claim saying she thought Armstrong was ‘simply an attention seeker and the drug-cheat confession was nothing more than an elaborate cover up to hide his real cycling credentials’.
‘If there is a cocktail to be found in any of this, then it is in the pack of lies Armstrong has just come out with’ argued Winfrey ‘it was complete fabrication from beginning to end.
The man is known to have lied before and he’s lying now – he’s no drug taker.
He won those races fair and square but he just can’t admit to it’.
But Armstrong insisted it was an intense programme of EPO and steroid supplements in tandem with a prolonged course of cortisone injections that paved the way for victory in each of his Tour wins between 1999-2005.
The former world record holder claimed that without the drugs he would have been just another of the thousands of also-rans dreaming of one day wearing the famous yellow jersey.
Winfrey also claimed that Armstrong had lied about beating cancer and that he was actually still dying from the horrible disease and gave him no more than a couple of years at best. Something which Armstrong strongly denied.
Armstrong denied denying the denail and said he would continue with his drug-cheat claim until his reputation was in ruins.
