Prime Minister David Cameron has promised that there will be "no British boots on the ground" in support of French troops in Mali. In order to prepare for this the Army are rigorously being trained in walking on their hands.
The Army spokesman, Maj Tim Riley said "So that Mr Cameron does not break his promise the men have been forced to practise methods of moving without putting their feet on the ground. It's a bit like the old school gym game of Pirates where you had to make your way between equipment without touching the ground, which was classified as 'sea'. If we cannot become sufficiently proficient in these methods then the other courses of action open to us are to order foreign (i.e. non-UK) made boots or to deploy forces barefoot."
