To reflect the ever-changing ideological make-up of the UK, from 2015 Boxing Day will be known as ‘National Atheism Day’ number 10 has announced.
In line with Christian leaders on Christmas Day, leading atheists (men and women) such as Richard Dawkins will address the nation with their thoughts, which will be repeated throughout the day on 24 hour news channels. Similarly, their pronouncements on various issues throughout the year will also be given equal airtime.
Timed to coincide with the new slogan ‘Fair Play Is The Tory Way’ Prime Minister David Cameron said: “Look, we do not live in a dictatorship and I think it is only right and proper this change takes place. Additionally, because of banks’ recent criminal, selfish and reckless behaviour, the term ‘Bank Holiday’ is to be outlawed.”
In a survey, 87% of the public think the move is a ‘good idea’ but Father Christmas look-alike Rowan Williams, the outgoing Archbishop of Canterbury, said: “This is outrageous – there is not a shred of evidence to indicate God does not exist. It is every child’s duty to be brainwashed with made-up mumbo jumbo and the responsibility of non-believers to prove beyond doubt it is no more than a fairy story social control device.”
As its social make-up changes, experts believe in about 20-30 years’ time the UK can look forward to St George’s Day becoming ‘Prophet Mohammed Day’, Christmas Day being phased out and a civil war between atheists and Muslims.
