Television presenter and avid Tweeter Stephen Fry was one of the lucky ones.
As he came out with his purchase he said: 'Just to feel this is fantastic. It is a phenomenal nob. There's never been anything like it. To say I was here is rather a nice feeling, it's a momentous nob and I'm enormously excited.'
Mr Fry said the tablet's beauty lay in its impact on culture and lifestyle rather than as a technological breakthrough.
