Can you make this genuine news story from the BBC funny?
A gold earring disc, found in Norfolk by a metal detector enthusiast, has left treasure experts baffled as to the exact meaning of its decoration. Discovered in Keswick, near Norwich, the disc "is an unusual find for the Roman period", said a Norwich Castle Museum spokesman. It features a scorpion, phallus, snake and crab, but the meaning of the combination "is lost" an expert said.

I...think you've missed the point here, Custard old boy.
I'm fairly sure the entire reason for this site's existence is to take the piss out of the news or social trends.
It's not a 'new feature' to find unusual news stories and try and be funny about them. Although I guess it is fairly ground-breaking to find a boring news story and ask other people to be funny about it on your behalf.

A jokelet?
Sometimes it's hard to edit things down that far, though. Sometimes, it might be easier to have a format that's a little longer, but still brief. A sort of 'News Satire in a Brief Format', if you will.
But you've hit the nail on the head there, Perks. Naming such a thing would be impossible.
A lot of comedy shows eventually get round to doing a serious one where the laughter stops and jokes are replaced with a bit of reflection and pathos.
Maybe as a new feature we could take a news story and try to make it poignant or whistful.
Anyone with me?

Here's a neat idea. Someone could suggest a subject for everyone to write a story about.

Sugartits, what about a website that turned lesbian orgies into news?
"A local man has been fired from his pizza delivery job this week today after a delivery last night ended in a sexual act. Reports have suggested that on delivering the pizza, two women opened the door, undressed, and complained that they had no sour cream to dip their crusts into, to which the driver replied 'well I've got more than enough for the two of you..." etc.
