British constitutional watchdogs have suddenly woken up to the potential for a 'nightmare scenario' arising out of Kate Middleton's close friendship with Victoria Beckham. Suppose the Duchess of Cambridge does produce twins? And suppose she decides on Victoria's 'too posh to push' route and opts for a Caesarian section. And suppose that birth results in a 'dead heat' delivery.
“We have just the one throne, one State Crown, one orb, one sceptre and none of the basic hardware necessary for a dual succession,” explained Royal expert Sir Norman St John Prosser. “We will simply have to know, even if it's down to ten thousands of a second, which twin gets out first and which is the runner-up”
Olympic chief Sebastian Coe was today asked to keep himself on stand-by for the birth next summer. With the aid of atomic stopwatches and instant replay facilities, it might well be Lord Coe who decides which of the twins will eventually succeed William to the throne of Great Britain.
