Hampshire police have tried to play down fears of an outbreak of secular paedophilia following the jailing of a female nursery worker in Portsmouth. Investigations so far reveal that Tracy Lyons, 40, was not a member of any religious group. According to some reports, she had never even been baptised. "Obviously, any case like this is a cause for major concern explained the Chief Constable, "but we must remember to put it into context. There are a few instances of secular paedophilia every year and this latest incident cannot be taken as a sign that it is moving into the wider community as a whole. It is still the case that by far the majority of incidents of this kind occur within the context of organised religion. There is no case for complacency but no need for any panic. Obviously we will continue to monitor the situation closely."
