ITV today confirmed that they have been approached by the BBC about introducing a Terminator style killing into the fourth series of Downton Abbey. The BBC are hoping to stop Jimmy Savile 20 years before he starts his predatory sex crimes by going back in time with the Crawley family.
Mr Savile would have been 4 years of age in 1930 the same year the new series is to be set. It’s thought Tony Hall the new Director General of the BBC has spoken to the head of ITV and Downton producer Julian Fellowes about the idea. Plots considered include Savile junior being struck down with polio or killed in a charabanc accident. The idea was first mooted for inclusion in series 3, but it was felt that killing his mother would have been unpalatable to viewers of the popular period drama.
Speaking of the plan Mr Hall said “Mr Savile was a very sick man and we are looking at many options to address the current situation. One of those is to go back in time with Downton and put an end to this whole affair before it starts”.
MPs are watching the situation closely in light of the recent allegations against Cyril Smith.
