Thousands of British motorists believe their cars double as boats which can be sailed through streets filled with water.
'I just don't get it,' said Robin Doyle, a motorist for thirty years who had to be rescued by the emergency services when his Ford Escort sunk like a stone outside Jessops on Aylesbury High Street.
'Although it's got perfectly good tyres aft and a new satnav, it quickly became becalmed and started to sink. I'm getting a Skoda next time.'
Mildred Bates (58) whose Skoda was washed away when she attempted to cross the River Ouse, said she was shocked when the car refused to float despite having clean wing mirrors.
'You see these car in war films just driving off a boat into the sea with no problem', she said. 'I'm getting a Ford Escort next time.'
An RAC spokesman said many motorists are neither good drivers or sailors.
'They're just morons,' he said from a roundabout surrounded by water in the middle of Batley.
