The next Archbishop of Canterbury may undergo a sex change in a plan to overturn the recent Church of England vote to prevent women becoming bishops.
'Normally we would have to wait years to get the decision reversed,' said a supporter of women bishops, 'but this will just mean a quick visit to a surgeon and we'll have a woman as archbishop.'
Supporters of the plan point out that as Welby has already been chosen as archbishop, 'it's a done deal'.
It's hoped by supporters that other bishops may offer to 'go under the knife' in the cause of church unity.
A conservative opponent said she was 'appalled' at the plan and that those opposed to women bishops would seek to get women priests to undergo a sex change but admitted she wasn't optimistic.'But we'll be praying,'she said.
'A change of sex for Justin isn't such a big deal,' said a church spokesman. 'He's been wearing frocks for years, so we're already half way there.'
