Radio 1 DJ Nick Grimshaw was arrested today by Metropolitan Police in a dawn raid. Mr. Grimshaw (29) was arrested at around 5.45am at the Radio 1 studios at Broadcasting House minutes before his show was due to start.
Police confirmed that a 29 year old had been arrested and questioned about an unspecified crime and released without charge approximately 4 hours later.
Speaking later on behalf of the Metropolitan Police, Superintendent David Giblet told reporters that the crime Mr. Grimshaw had been questioned over was not related to the separate crimes Mr. Grimshaw had been questioned about, and also released without charge, after his arrest on the previous 4 mornings but would not confirm the nature of the crimes they were investigating, however it is not thought to be related to the Saville case.
When it was pointed out that Mr.Grimshaw had been unable to front any of his shows this week, Superintendent Giblet would only state "the police provide a public service and so our main priority is for the safety of the public".
The police refused to comment on the speculation that potential replacement Chris Moyles has been held for the past 5 days under the provision of the Terrorism Act (2006)
