A CPS spokeswoman described the case as ‘a self-fulfilling paradox waiting to happen’.
‘The man not only had to re-live the abuse he suffered at his own hand in the 1970s, he must now also live with the humiliation of the guilty verdict for the rest of his life.’
The spokeswoman said she hoped the successful prosecution would send a clear message out to anyone even thinking about engaging in similar behaviour. ‘Obviously, the sentence would have been far less lenient had the man not turned himself in and pleaded guilty.’
The man, who cannot be named because an incompetent registrar forgot to write it on his birth certificate, was ordered to wear a ‘WANKER’ badge for one week.
