well, for what it's worth B-J
That simply stunning piece of opportunism was probably the best goal EVER scored in the history of the game.
Apart from the header my mate Albert scored for Beta Aluminium versus The Carpet Factory (Bridgnorth League 1972-73 season)...people still talk about that goal.
We shared a 19 goal thriller that day...mind you, we also kicked off 19 times too
The only team in the league that had a double vodka with our half-time orange.Posted 6 months ago # -
Yes, I can confirm that people are still talking about Albert's header.
I was in the Hare and Hounds on Bernards' Hill in Bridgnorth only last Sunday when Phil Taylor from the Decca Domino League looked at the flat pint of Shropshire Lad he'd just been pulled and quipped 'where's the Albert on that?' in a subtle reference to that legendary goal.

I was forced to play football at school. I say play. We just stood around being cold and sulky. I scored one goal in 7 years. A goal kick hit me on the back of the head and rebounded into the goal. I fell face down onto the cold mud. Mind you I did play rugby from aged 11 to 22.

I understand soccer. Guy kicks ball into goal, without being off side (whatever that means) him and his buddies score 1 point. Am I right?

Detested all school 'sport'. Got 'plimsoled' back at the changing rooms by the psychopathic sadistic arsehole of a games teacher [no names no pack drill Mr Evans]for a mildly sarcastic remark made on the field of combat. Strangely, no additional physical abuse meted out for loudly calling him a fucking bastard shortly after the assault.
And he was Welsh. But I don't harbour a grudge.Posted 6 months ago # -
Dick - if you see the legend that is Albert, say hello for me.
It's like taking a trip down memory lane ...only to find someone's been fly-tipping.
Black Horse...about 11.00pm....slumped on a stool.
How is Song doing?Lucy...yes, that's a fairly brief summary but you've managed to get pretty much everything in there.
Dvo...those PTA meetings can get out of hand at times.
Might be worth warning the kids about Mr.Evans.Posted 6 months ago # -
Gerontius - check out Antiques Road Trip tonight for a further trip down memory lane - Albert may be in The Raven tonight so I will pass on your greetings if he is not already horizontal. Song? Does he run the Chinese in Low Town?

No...he runs Bulmer's....well, not so much 'runs' as keeps the shareholders happy.
Antiques Road Show....happy days.Posted 6 months ago # -
The real commentary on TalkSport was arguably even better than AP. Stan Collymore, in his best brummie accent, said he felt like running on the pitch and giving Ibrahimovic a 'Joygaaaantic mannnhoog.'
Judging by the above comments though, Lucy is over-qualified to be a ref but dvo has potential with I suspect a deep-seated desire to wreak revenge on the sporting world that caused him so much pain and anguish all those years ago. Andy D'Urso probably had a similar grudge.
Of course, I realise that there are some people whose entire social life does not revolve around the fixture list, whose judgement of people is not based on what team they happen to support, and whose whole outlook on life is not affected by their team's fortunes on a week-to-week basis. I just have to learn to cope with such maladjusted individuals.
