In a break with tradition, the BBC will this year use the annual Children In Need appeal to help children who are already in need rather than putting children in need thanks to the behaviour of their employees.
A statement on the BBC website said that in the light of the revelations regarding Jimmy Savile and others, the policy would have to change. "We realise that BBC employees may have acted in a way that made children seek need and this could be seen as a self-justification for the annual appeal for Children In Need. If we stop putting children in need, maybe we can start to focus the funds raised every year to help children who are in need as result of non-BBC activity".
