Police in Greater Manchester moved quickly to assure concerned parents that a man seen lurking outside the Potters Lane Primary School in Stockport was there to sell drugs and was not a paedophile.
Parents reported seeing a man talking to children and handing them sweets as they entered the school gates early on Monday morning.
But police later identified the man as a known drug dealer who had no connections with child sex rings operating in the Stockport area and did not pose a threat to the childrens safety.
Relieved parents thanked the police for their immediate response and asked them to apologise to the man for any inconvenience or embarrassment they may have caused.
‘Well, you just can’t be too careful with strangers these days’ said young mother Bethany Ollerenshaw as she dropped the twins off at the gate ‘so it’s good to know he’s not up to no good.
You wouldn’t happen to know if he’s going past Winton Avenue later....he could drop the twins off at the bottom of the road for me....they’re no trouble’.
