A van in collision with panto veteran Christopher Biggins has been described as ‘a complete write-off’ by an AA mechanic attending the scene of the incident.
Biggins was on his way to rehearsals at Plymouth’s Winter Gardens where he is appearing in Dick Whittington, when a white Astra van driven by a 35 year old Saltash man ploughed into the back of him, throwing him to the ground and ripping a hole in his trousers.
Biggins, who suffered minor cuts and bruises in the incident, was said to be feeling dazed and confused but later admitted it was not the first time a van driver had knocked him to the ground and ripped a big hole in the back of his trousers although he seemed to remember on the previous occasion there had not been any actual van involved.
One eye-witness told how she had heard a high pitched screeching noise followed by a sickening thud and spun round to see Biggins rehearsing his big song and dance routine for the Christmas panto.
Seconds later he was hit by the van.
As a precaution, the comedian was taken to hospital in an ambulance for observation but Biggins was allowed to carry on the rest of his journey on foot.
