Police hunting the killer of a Reno man, shot dead in cold blood as he parked his car say the shooting has all the hall marks of an unsolved murder dating back to the mid 1950s and could be the work of a copy-cat killer.
Police Commissioner Marvin Tubbs said the latest murder was a motiveless act of violence carried out on an innocent man who just happened to be in the wrong place at the wrong time - identical in every detail to an attack carried out on the first victim just off Glendale Avenue back in ’55.
Tubbs, who was a rookie cop with the RPD at the time of the original incident recalled how the senseless, unprovoked attack rocked the peaceful community of Reno.
Eye witness statements from the original murder investigation mention seeing a tall, mean looking man dressed in black carrying a large leather case.
‘He just went up to the guy, pulled a gun and shot him dead’ recalled Tubbs ‘never said a word....just stood there and watched him die’.
Despite a search lasting several months, taking in five neighbouring states and involving US Marshalls, the killer was never caught and over time the citizens of Reno forgot about it.
Once again there were eye-witness accounts of an elderly, mean looking man dressed in black, walking down the centre of the road carrying a large case. Some reckon the man walked with a limp and others said he was upright and tall...but they all agreed he walked line.
‘The original murder was over 50 years ago’ said Tubbs ‘there’s no way it could be the same man.
But one things for sure....we’re gonna call the murderer by some other name this time.
Bill or George.....anything but Sue.
I still hate that name’.
Shit....I was working on something along the lines of
