Well, I've seen suggestions. But the whole child abuse scandal is being whipped up into a frenzy, and I'd like to think we'll settle for a legal procedure rather than a full-blown witch-hunt. Just because we're too late to string Savile up from a lamp-post, that's no reason to advance on Westminster with our pitchforks and firebrands...

Tricksy one that in the light of those 9 people fined for mentioning a rape victim's name on Twitter and "other social media".
But...I'm bloody sure I heard a BBC bloke say "There is still speculation as to the identity of the former Tory PM". Possibly a fruedian slip but Ted Heath was always a funny bugger! Just sayin'Posted 6 months ago # -
Tripod, you are such a spoilsport.

Tripod, you are such a spoilsport.
Not really. There'll still be plenty of public humiliation, baying crowds, the hushed courtroom, the damning testimony, the prospect of some national figured disgraced, dishonoured and jailed... all on rolling 24-hour news... It's only the 'hanging from a lamp-post' bit that we'll miss out on...

I've seen 4 names, 3 you'd instantly recognise from the Thatcher era. The UK blog owner seems convinced enough to publish all 4 together. I'm not brave enough to copy him, though.

This is easy; all a blogger has to do is pick four random Thatcher era Tories that s/he particularly recalls with distaste (spoilt for choice, I suspect), name them, and then disappear as they or their families fall apart, commit suicide or whatever, then feign innocence as the ‘real’ culprit is uncovered by the investigation that has been made ten times more difficult because of bloggers naming random Tories recalled with particular distaste... the libel laws are there for a reason. Just saying.

Did have a quick look for any news but entering 'child sex abuse' into a search engine can have unwanted consequences, even if one were able to rely on a 'Townsend' defence.
Much as I'm interested to see who's name might be in the frame, I agree with Tripod. Tom Watson might yet spill the beans under parliamentary privilege but that might prejudice enquiry/trial.Posted 6 months ago # -
Is there a 'professional Yorkshireman' in the reckoning??

@ Sinnick. Can you point me to a scurilous blog which may name names? Every search I do just returns news sites with tight lips and one eye on the libel costs.
Edit: Got there before me Nowhere. I'll check it out.
Pouring through the huge list of ministers I can't help but wish it was Sec. of State for Wales 83-85 John Stradling Thomas for no other reason than the name.

Nowherefast has found the site I looked at, and much more. Sounds like they should start building another couple of jails, if any of these allegations has substance rather than just gossip.

Yes, the rumour mill will soon be grinding... in the 'legitimate media' as well as the blogs. It's a rather depressing prospect...

The way things are going it seems like every other person is a paedophile. If you're reading this, it definitely ain't me so it has to be you.

I bet the bankers are pleased they're out of the limelight for a while.

I bet the bankers are pleased they're out of the limelight for a while.
Unless they have 'unusual sexual interests', in which case they're screwed...

The 2nd link reads uneasily like David Ike's. While shockingly believable, substituting Lizard for Paeodeophile makes me uncomfortable as to its varacity. If only a bit is true its pretty bloody damning and quite depressing. I'd like to say "How very differnt to the life of our dear queen" except I'm not too sure about her now.
Do I get points for naming EDIT above?

Do I get points for naming Ted Heath above?
On current showing it could be three months...

That doesn't work does it? Bugger!

@beau-jolly
Unfortunately to cloud the credibility of allegations the hand of icke has been at work in bringing some of these names out into the open
(Sample here)Here's a curious thing tho, that does give some degree of credibility to the allegations of systematic protection of these creeps. Although he isn't a politician I am personally aware of a 'connected' individual who was caught by Operation Ore. When it came to court the evidence against him had been conveniently mislaid by the messr's plod.
Sooo.. having witnessed much of the above incident unfold from close up I have to recognise that even the febrile ravings and naming of (allegedly) culpable individuals made by loony dave may have some substance. If they do, and this thing goes as deep into the network of the great and the good as is being suggested, then I dare say the dead and a few 2nd or 3rd tier senior players will be outed, but the ones at the very top.. I'll honestly be extremely suprised if we ever find out who they are.

...also I recomend NOBODY LOOKS ON TWITTER for any answers.

It could be the biggest shit-fight the country has seen for decades. This wiki page is about a similar enquiry in Belgium in the 90s, which apparently left the nation feeling deeply betrayed, angry and trusting no-one in authority:
I fear we're barely at the tip of the iceberg. Probably best not to repeat the rumours on Twitter.

Sir Peter Morrison just got named on C4 news (lead item)
now online here: C4 abuse outing
Posted 6 months ago # -
Elan Jones suggested in parliament today that one of the alleged abusers is a 'sitting lord'. Morrison is dead, though.

a lot of momentum on this, so the surviving 'grandee' that "cannot be named for legal reasons" is probably packing a bag. No way this is getting swept under the very expensive carpet now.

@nickb
I could give chapter and verse on some aspects of that episode having got the call from his (now ex) wife at half 7 on a xmas eve morning just after the plod turned up, arrested the bloke and took away his computer.. but discretion and consideration for the wife in this instance incline me to not go into details. The stuff I do know, although I believe it to be true, is essentially unsupported here-say from an evidential point of view so revealing it serves no purpose beyond gossip. I just used the event to illustrate that, yeah, I believe there're some major double standards in operation in this country regarding the extent to which justice is dispensed and individuals are subject to the law.

@Nowhere
Five Alive! Sounds like you know a thing or two.
But yes, Best not to repeat any names
a) For fear of prosecution for naming names
b) Because even MPs have been warned to avoid using parliamentary privilege to do so because it could prejudice a prosecution.
c) Some of the speculation on the tw*tterspher could just be wildly unsubstantiated rumour.These investigations are best left to the Police, like Hillsborough...ok, left to the govt. like the Waterhouse inquiry...Ok, left to Judge Dredd.

I probably know the answer to the question, but cannot reveal it. I'm so sure that I would bet my house on it.

Watching telly last night I couldn't be arsed to turn over so saw a bit of Don Portillo's railway journeys. Not in any way connected to this thread but I was amused that he is now shown slipping quietly into Europe.
PETER MANDLESON hasn't been named anywhere yet. Just because he is gay and a bit seedy looking does not mean he is a criminal. That, I think, was what the PM was getting at.
